STRONG MEAT BELONGS TO THOSE WHOSE SENSES ARE DEVELOPED BY USE TO DISCERN GOOD FROM EVIL.
( Hebrews 5:14)
This increment is exploring the question, ‘Who are those who get revelations and understanding of the mysteries of God, and how do they come into their maturity?’
Strongs, greek, NT:3466 definition of the word, refers to an initiation into SACRED SECRETS, one of the definitions of the word ‘mysteries’ (musterion) used in scripture.
We have been dealing with two realms, both, absolutely precious in our development:
1) our simple and necessary, most valuable foundations in The Kingdom of God, and also
2) our ongoing development and maturity. Scripture denotes specific qualifications and characteristics to each. We are dealing with the reality of the rest of God, and of our dependence on His complete and finished work. We are dealing in the process of our surrender to that, or lack thereof. Then, we are also dealing with our appetites formore of God, not under the law, but because He is so good and we have tasted and therefore press in for more and God responds to our drawing near and pressing in by revealing Himself to us all the more.
Unless we are born again, we cannot enter, but God does not want us to remain immature babies, but He desires to bring us up to become mature sons. The foundations are necessary, and yet we are encouraged to move on into maturity.
The Peril of Not Progressing
Therefore, leaving the discussion of the elementary principles of Christ, let us go on to perfection, not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works and of faith toward God,2 of the doctrine of baptisms, of laying on of hands, of resurrection of the dead, and of eternal judgment.3 And this we will do if God permits. NKJV
Foundations are necessary, and must be solid and firmly built upon The Rock Who is Jesus Christ, the Firstborn of many brethren. The foundation is there to be built upon, and the original disciples and apostles laid a foundation, also, that are built upon The Rock. Our purpose includes continuation of the addition of more stories to the building of God. The happens, as it did with them, by our development in and of His revelation of Himself to us, and our expressing and communicating and perpetuation the true gospel and the fruit that lasts in our lives and in the lives we touch, and in the world. He calls us living stones in a temple not made with hands, and wants us fitly framed and joined together as a living temple for His Presence on the face of the earth.
STRONG MEAT BELONGS TO THOSE WHOSE SENSES ARE DEVELOPED BY USE TO DISCERN GOOD FROM EVIL.
For though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you again the first principles of the oracles of God; and you have come to need milk and not solid food.
13 For everyone who partakes only of milk is unskilled in the word of righteousness, for he is a babe.
14 But solid food belongs to those who are of full age, that is, those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.
Those who do receive strong meat, most likely have been through the necessary stages; fed milk and had a foundation laid, who have accepted training and embraced teaching, who learned by experience to understand their identity, both who they are in Christ, and what and who has been operating in them that is not them. They learn who they are and who they are not… both are necessary for the understanding of one’s true identity. They know their authority and rightly handle The Word of God. They are dependent on God and on the finished work of Jesus Christ.
Another characteristic of those who receive strong meat, bear fruit that lasts and seem to flow in revelation, is that they consistently press in for the high call of God in their lives. They have a resulting experience of transformation that comes out of their ongoing intimacy with God. It is a mark to aim at, as the apostle Paul said…
Phil 3:12-16 …Not that I have already attained, or am already perfected; but I press on , that I may lay hold of that for which Christ Jesus has also laid hold of me.
13 Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended; but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead, 14 I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus. 15 Therefore let us, as many as are mature, have this mind; and if in anything you think otherwise, God will reveal even this to you. 16 Nevertheless, to the degree that we have already attained, let us walk by the same rule, let us be of the same mind.
The training of ‘babes’, and their nurture is purposed, not only for them to sit and receive, but with expectations at all times that to whatever degree they are able, they participate. They are being raised up to become rulers and leaders; fishers of men! They have become part-takers of The Divine Nature, and from the beginning, appropriate to their growth in grace, learn that they are also available for God’s presence and manifestation.
Even as the precious presence and acknowledgement of a newborn in our midst in the natural realm, we need to acknowledge and include and recognize the preciousness of those who are with us, newborn, infants, in the spiritual realm, born into The Kingdom of God.
They are a big deal to God and need to be a big deal to us. To be ‘seen and not heard’ is how I was raised in the natural, but it is good for babes to participate, to learn discipline, and also to have a time they also can exercise their lungs, and soon their voice, and find their place in the family and in the body from the beginning. As in a healthy natural family, a two year old or an eight year old at the table has the right, need and privilege to talk and share and express what they know and from their true stage of development.
Everyone in the family needs a place to feel and find out what works and what doesn’t work. They need to be able to learn by experience how to ‘keep it real’ and share freely from where they are at, without teasing, belittling, criticizing or constant correction without encouragement and praise.
Of course, correction is necessary, but authorities and overseers need to ‘choose their battles, and use wisdom to determine what God’s timetable is for this one… not to break their spirit, and not to spoil them for lack of guidance, or allow them to become wall flowers who yield to passivity. We are mirrors for one another, and we need to reflect truth and hope in love to everyone. You may be a babe, dealing with your authorities or those over you in The Lord today, and tomorrow you may be leading and need those you are leading to understand and respond to your position in authority. What you sow is what you reap. Those who are rebellious against authority also have a difficult time when they become the authority, to step into the position. They have been against themselves. It interferes with their capacity to process the flow of God and to receive and minister strong meat. It blocks their development of maturity, and their anointing, which is the very presence of God flowing from within them to accomplish His will and purposes.
Influences that shape and form will come from all directions and reflections to each little one; to each one who is ready to begin again, who is forming their new and necessary identity that is made in the image of God, bringing forth a godly self-image and self-esteem. We can all be a part of those godly impressions that bring forth leaders and develop milk drinkers into meat eaters, and greater yet… meat feeders; those who bring forth a mature word to minister to leaders; modern day apostles, forerunners.
All of these things affect ones understanding of themselves, and their growth in The Kingdom. Godly expectations are precious to every one, when their church family considers them to be able to know God, hear from God, and share the impressions they are perceiving in the spiritual realm, and yet know they are in training, in the process of development and have not arrived. We must not overwhelm, but keep them stretching and reaching and pressing on to their high call, to the fulfillment of their potential in Christ Jesus.
We need to expect the Life of Christ to be manifesting in each one who is a cell and member of His body. Yet, too high of expectations, and particularly when they have not been developed and built upon by ongoing experience and participation, can crush, can puff up, can cause one to become reluctant to share, or to grab hold because of pressure, and sometimes, to please and impress, will receive from impressions that are not of God, and are off track.
Just like raising up natural children, problems happen, and are corrected and dealt with, and it is to be expected. We could refuse to deal with the immature, and have a simpler life, but all this is a part of the process of being fruitful and multiplying.
Where no oxen are, the trough is clean;
But much increase comes by the strength of an ox. NKJV
Everyone needs encouragement and permission to take their part and share from where they really are in their process of development, and the others need to be able, just as in a natural family, to recognize and acknowledge those who are just beginning and growing. We need to allow grace and place for them, and ‘suffer the little ones to come unto Me’. We need to accept and allow these new babes room to make their mistakes and learn from them, and to not be afraid that they will not do everything right.
We need to listen with patience and understanding and appreciate all that God is doing, as we know and discern the sharing of babes from the parents and other adults. We do it in the natural, and we think the kids are cute, but in spiritual things, we are not all so patient and understanding.
In developing maturity, we need to discern immaturity, and deal with it appropriately. We need to become seasoned. Not everything we hear is for the purpose of teaching us what we are hearing. But rather, sometimes it is to teach us how to suffer the little children. Sometimes by making room for those who are less mature, we are making room for a flow of revelation to come into us and through us, just by that presence of the nature of God we are allowing as we tolerate and understand those who are learning.
Everyone needs to share and all need to exercise their senses to discern both good and evil, and also to discern maturity from immaturity. We need to learn to discern, and practice discernment, and all the while, knowing that just because one may not be mature, they still need to express and share, and are even able to teach and lead and be an example to the younger babes, even more immature than them.
Now again, let us look at this scripture and notice that it is by reason of use, this maturity develops. This is how church is as family, and there is a huge problem when the old church order that holds the ‘one man show’ format, continues into this Third Day, or Third One Thousand Years from Christ.
In that order, one man, the pastor, does it all; all the preaching, teaching, prophecying, operating in the gifts, receives the offering and maybe even leads or controls worship. The rest sit in the pews, and are forever taught, and never learning and never maturing. It is because they do not ‘use it’ and so they lose it.
(Matt 21:43-44 "Therefore I say to you, the kingdom of God will be taken from you and given to a nation bearing the fruits of it.
Luke 8:18 Therefore take heed how you hear. For whoever has, to him more will be given; and whoever does not have, even what he seems to have will be taken from him." NKJV)
Many places don’t want you to ‘use it’ until it is finished and perfect, or mature, which it will never be if it is not used, and developed, and exercised. Therefore, the person who does not get to ‘practice’ in their family, learning by use to discern good from evil, and thereby receive the strong meat that is for the mature, is left, instead, to copy what they’ve seen the one leader do, and fake that with a good performance, rather than to develop their own true gift that comes from the inside out, and earns and learns by exercise, and produces the capacity to receive meat and eat and assimilate it.
In PART THREE of MYSTERIES ARE FOR REVELATION, I want us to take a look at some of the scriptures that prove to us to what degree it is the will of God to reveal His Selfto those who are pressing in close for intimacy with him.
